More than 200 species of birds call the island home, along with whitetail deer, alligator, fox, otter, and even and occasion manatees by joining one of various guided kayak tours. Alligators have been protected on Kiawah since the start of development, and have thrived in the Island’s numerous ponds and creeks. The re are approximately 600 friendly alligators on the Island. The bald eagle is also a resident on Kiawah. They present an especially dramatic sight in the fall, soaring together with their brown and white plumage standing out against the clear blue sky.
