History abounds in the Mountains
Cherokee Indians controlled the area today known as Fannin County when the first white settlements appeared. Unlike much of the rest of Georgia, Fannin County first settlers did not come from the East, but from the North. Crossing over the Appalachian Mountains to Fort Loudon (now Tennessee), the first settlers followed the Tennessee River south, where they took the Ocoee-Toccoa to the wide, fertile valley that separates the Cohuttas and the Blue Ridge Mountains in Fannin County.

How Sweet it is!
Some of the best-loved sweets in the nation are made nearby in Chattanooga and vicinity, including Moon Pies, M&M’s and Twix Chocolate, Little Debbie snack cakes, and Mayfield Ice Cream. Founded in Athens, TN in 1912, Mayfield Dairy farms now serves nine states and employs 2,000 employees. Like Mayfield, MoonPies have a long history. Created in 1917 at Chattanooga Bakery, the MoonPie is a chocolate-covered graham cracker and marshmellow sandwich that was invented for coal miners to carry in their lunch pails.

Also in the area is Mars Snackfood. Located in Cleveland, TN since 1977 and makes a variety of M&M’s and Twix Candy. In June 2008, the area just got a little sweeter with the opening of The Lollipop Shop of Hiawassee. Inside you will find 60 flavors of Jelly Belly (Jelly Belly as 50 official flavors and we have 10 extra) 21 colors of M&M’s, Razzles, Wax Lips, BB Bats and Kits.
